An Update on CTXMatrix: Where We Stand and What’s Next

Hey everyone, especially the Foobar2000 users who’ve been patiently waiting for CTXMatrix Lite V1.4—I have some news, and it’s not the update many were hoping for.

CTXMatrix Lite V1.3 is now the final version. It’s fully refined, stable, and represents the complete realization of what I set out to build. The core is built purely around RACE (Recursive Ambiophonic Crosstalk Elimination) principles, with the added Control Centre feature to strengthen phantom center imaging for anyone who wants that extra reinforcement. After extensive work, I’ve concluded that no meaningful further improvements are possible within this Lite iteration.

One limitation that remains is the calibration process. Due to technical constraints, the full calibration stages simply don’t function reliably inside Foobar2000. The best workaround is to perform your calibration in a compatible host like Reaper (or any other VST3-supporting DAW), generate the necessary files there, and then import those calibrated settings into Foobar2000. It works, but it’s not seamless.

Looking ahead, my focus has shifted. I won’t be providing ongoing support, updates, or versions specifically for Foobar2000, Linux, or other non-primary platforms. Official, long-term support and development will concentrate on the Windows VST3 plugin (which is already mature) and, when it’s ready, a dedicated Mac version. Those will receive permanent solutions and any future attention.

That brings me to the next chapter. I’m working on a simpler, more user-friendly follow-up called CTXMatrix Renderer (or possibly Rendr—still deciding on the exact name; “Player” is also under consideration). This version eliminates the need for real-time calibration entirely. Instead, it loads your pre-calibrated files directly. Once set up correctly, it just works—no expiry, no time limits, completely permanent.

Because it’s a renderer that depends on those pre-calibrated files, accuracy during the initial calibration step becomes even more important. Take your time with it in a good host to get the best possible results.

That’s the current status in a nutshell. Thank you to everyone who’s tried CTXMatrix, provided feedback, or simply enjoyed the wider soundstage it brings to stereo playback. The Renderer is targeted for release in January next year, and I’m looking forward to sharing a plugin you can use forever without restrictions.

Enjoy V1.3 in the meantime, and I’ll keep you posted when the Renderer is ready.

Thanks again—happy listening.
